Cancer Patients and Caregivers in Texas to Benefit from New Social Media Platform

Fort Worth TX/Sun Valley ID– OMNI Health Media announces the launch of TexasCancerConnect, an online community for cancer patients and caregivers providing information, inspiration, and support.

TexasCancerConnect was created to facilitate access to information, education, and support for cancer patients and their caregivers throughout Texas. As cancer patients increasingly use social media to connect with and support one another, as well as to share valuable information, the demand for trusted, secure online communities is growing.

Research increasingly shows that cancer patients seek validation, information, and support via social media. Moreover, patients increasingly see social media as a way to “give back” by sharing their experience with others. Unlike other social media platforms, the TexasCancerConnect community was created using OMNI-Connect social media software, which allows individuals to interact in a confidential, safe, and secure environment.

TexasCancerConnect is designed as a valuable regional resource to connect cancer patients and caregivers in Texas with both an online community and with resources in the state. The platform includes information about clinical trials, cancer advocacy and support programs, and an easy-to-use Cancer Care Provider Directory—all specific to Texas.

Meg Monday director of social media at OMNI Health Media, says, “We are excited about the release of TexasCancerConnect to support patients, families, and caregivers throughout Texas. Families affected by cancer require resources that speak to their unique interests and needs, and TexasCancerConnect will play a valuable role in providing these resources.”

TexasCancerConnect members can participate in more than sixty disease-specific communities created for patients and caregivers with similar interests and needs. Beyond information related directly to specific cancer types, these groups include caregiving, health and wellness, clinical trials, insurance, nutrition, and survivorship, all of which provide valuable support and education. Together, these elements of the TexasCancerConnect platform offer an online destination populated with rich content to support the many ongoing needs of patients and caregivers.

TexasCancerConnect was created by TCU student Hunter Weaver, utilizing OMNI-Connect social media software that allows for the creation of private social media communities. OMNI Connect is also used by Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Roswell Park Cancer Institute, The Seattle Cancer Care Alliance, Loyola University Medical Center, The Ohio State James Cancer Institute, Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, and other leading providers of cancer care. OMNI has also developed theRAConnection, a similar community for those diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis, and theGIConnection, developed for patients with gastrointestinal disease, will be released later this month.
