CancerConnect Launches Survey To Evaluate Patient Use and Perceptions of Social Media

CancerConnect has launched an online market research survey to evaluate cancer patients use patterns and perceptions of social media. Social media platforms like CancerConnect and Facebook have developed patient focused communities where cancer patients and their caregivers share information and support.  New concerns however have recently been raised about Facebook’s privacy policies, the sharing of user information, and Facebook’s Ad serving business model, which targets cancer patients.  The survey is designed to better understand how and why individuals impacted by a diagnosis of cancer chose to use or not use social media.  The survey is designed to recruit 2000 cancer patients and results will be available at the end of April.

About CancerConnect is a fully moderated online support community and rich information resource, providing patients and caregivers a trusted destination to learn about the management of cancer and a community where cancer patients both derive and provide support.

CancerConnect is the most established social platform for cancer patients and their caregivers with over 50 million individuals accessing its programs since its founding in 1996. The private label version of CancerConnect is used by clinics and advocacy groups to support their patients, and improve engagement, retention and loyalty. Leading cancer centers and advocacy groups including Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, Roswell Park Cancer Institute, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, The University of California, The Ohio State James Cancer Inst, The National Ovarian Cancer Coalition and other groups and providers support their patients with the private label version.
