CancerConsultants™ Announces Scientific Editor and VP of Operations for New Physician Portal

Ketchum, ID — March 26, 2002— C. Dean Buckner, M.D., one of the world’s leading experts in leukemia and bone marrow transplantation, has assumed the role of Scientific Editor for the new CancerConsultants.com Physician Portal. In addition, Janet Waller, RN, BS, OCN, is the new VP of Operations for the Physician Portal.

The CancerConsultants.com Physician Portal is a unique site that was developed by oncologists for oncologists. In his role as Scientific Editor, Dr. Buckner will oversee content development and recruit leading scientists and clinicians to write news, editorials and conference coverage for physicians. Dr. Buckner is a graduate of the University of Michigan Medical School and received his residency and post-graduate hematology and oncology training at the University of Washington and the National Cancer Institute. He helped pioneer autologous and allogeneic bone marrow and blood stem cell transplantation as a treatment for cancer with the team headed by E. Donnall Thomas, who received the 1990 Nobel Prize in Medicine for his work on transplantation biology. Dr. Buckner was a founding member of the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center and Director of the Autologous Marrow Transplant Program at that institution. He has published over 500 manuscripts in the field of hematology and oncology, including many in the New England Journal of Medicine. He heads the Jose Carrera Leukemia Research Foundation, is a National Cancer Institute research site/program reviewer and was awarded the Steiner prize in medicine in 1987 for achievements in bone marrow transplantation research.

Ms. Waller is a graduate of St. Mary’s School of Nursing and Aquinas College and has worked in the field of oncology since 1981. She implemented and coordinated the first outpatient chemotherapy center in Grand Rapids, Michigan and worked at the Grand Rapids Clinical Oncology Program, where she received the Achievement of Excellence Award. Ms. Waller was an active member of the Grand Rapids ONS chapter, where she co-authored Nursing Guidelines for Oncology and was editor of the newsletter. Ms. Waller developed and coordinated the first outpatient stem cell transplant center in Grand Rapids and was VP of Clinical Operations for the clinical programs of a practice management company overseeing 57 centers in 30 states. Most recently, Ms. Waller worked as a Medical Science Liaison for Wyeth. Currently, Ms. Waller is the Coordinator-Elect of the Staff Education Special Interest Group for the National ONS, which she will chair in 2003.
